Home >>> Sell from your car

Turn your car or van into a mobile shop. Park up and sell from a wide variety of locations or have a regular pitch. Why not set up a ‘round’ turning up at the same place at the same time each day/ week.

This idea could not be simpler. If you have your own transport you have your own mobile shop. Visit local wholesalers to see what you can get at reasonable prices. The Trader magazine has details of wholesalers from all over the UK.

Sell groceries, packaged food, pet food, seasonal items, flowers, pot plants and lots, lots more. With some types of high demand items it might be possible to set up a ‘round’. You may be able to set up a grocery round, for example, stopping outside homes far away from local shops or in remote villages. People will be willing to pay a little more for this service, especially if there are few local shops.

You could advertise in the areas you plan to operate and you could go door to door in these areas promoting your business and taking orders, to supplement the car sales. This is a business that may take a little time to develop so it may be worthwhile turning up at the same place and time each day/ week so people begin to expect you.

Make sure you have a street traders licence, which can be obtained from the local council at around £300/ £350 per year (2003/04). Take a folding chair and table for added comfort. Display a blackboard or a neat hand designed sign to display your prices.
